About Sabre Springs Optometry

Front exterior of our buildingDr. Thanh T. Nguyen, O.D. and Dr. Janice L. Lau, O.D. have over 20 years of combined clinical experience to serve your eye care needs.

Dr. Nguyen grew up in Northern California but fell in love with San Diego when she attended San Diego State University. After graduating from Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she made it a point to return to San Diego. Dr. Nguyen’s clinical rotations include areas of contact lens, low vision rehabilitation, pediatric care, retinal disease, as well as primary care. She especially enjoyed providing services at the Malcolm Randall Veteran Hospital and participating in the retina and low vision clinic, where she received honorable mention. Dr. Nguyen gathered experience from practicing in different settings including a medical group specializing in cornea and refractive surgery. Her special interests in keratoconus, post-RK, post-surgical cornea, and dry eyes allowed Dr. Nguyen to sharpen her skills in a setting abundant in atypical eyes. She has written research articles, lectured on topics of cornea diseases and specialty contact lens fitting, and was also closely involved with the latest Collagen Crosslinking FDA trial for keratoconus and cornea ectasia. Dr. Nguyen is a regular volunteer with the Lion’s Club and enjoys participating in community events. Dr. Nguyen loves going to local farmers’ markets with her two young sons… and of course… long walks on the beach.

Dr. Lau is a San Diego native and is fully invested in keeping San Diego beautiful. She attended the University of San Diego and knew and understood her calling to continue on the path of health care, namely vision care. Dr. Lau graduated from Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California and returned to San Diego to serve her home town. She has extensive exposure to fast pace practice settings and special circumstances. Dr. Lau actively seeks out opportunities of top-notch continuing education programs to stay on the edge of technology and research. Dr. Lau goes beyond treating your eye conditions by incorporating your lifestyle and occupational environment into your care plan and prescription eyewear. Whether it is contacts or glasses, Dr. Lau breathes her special touch into every patient she cares for and treats her patients like they were her family. Dr. Lau finds joy in hiking the local trails of San Diego and taking in the refreshing air and unique scenery of San Diego.
